Downhill Ski Area - Gimmelwald is served directly by the Schilthorn cable car system which continues up to the 3000m Schilthorn summit. Skiing and Skilift connections are possible right up to the top of the mountain with a variety of blue, red and black graded pistes. The area comprises 50km+ of prepared piste and 14 lift sections but remains relatively quiet and lift queues are usually short. If you are good, you can ski down to the front door of the hotel…..
A Skipass may be purchased either for the Schilthorn region only, or for the whole Jungfrau region, which allows skiing additionally in the Wengen, Kleine Scheidegg, Mannlichen and Grindelwald-First areas. The train and bus is also covered all the way to Interlaken Ost.
Offpiste ski opportunities also exist and guides are available through the ski school.
Cross Country Skiing - There is a prepared track for cross country skiing in the valley between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg (16/11 km classic and 5 km skating).
Sledding and Walking
In addition to skiing, the area includes some wonderful winter walks, and also sledding opportunities.
The ice ring and pool in Muerren are also available free to our guests.
The path between Muerren and Grutschalp is always a spectacular though peaceful trek in the winter snow, with a great view of the large mountains (Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau). Winteregg is an excellent stopping point for refreshment.
Sleds can be rented in Muerren and taken up on the funnicular to Almendhubel where the bob run provides an easy but fun route down to Muerren. When conditions allow the road down to Gimmelwald is an excellent and popular sled run with some fast sections!

History of the Inferno Race
When the snows recede in May, the slopes quickly come alive with a carpet of green grass and colourful wildflowers. This spectacular display peaks in late June, but continues for much longer through the summer, especially at higher altitudes.
While many visitors come to the Alps only in Winter, an equally enthusiastic set tend to favor this time of the year. Summer hiking is some of the best in the Swiss Alps. Well sign-posted routes and mountain hiking huts abound. One can expect much good weather in an alpine summer, but even when the weather is less than perfect, the results can add magic and mystery to the landscape. Indian summer conditions often extend through October, when spectacular colours dominate the area.
There is also a Klettersteig or via Ferrata www.klettersteig-muerren.ch for the adventurous.
Mountain biking is very popular with several exciting routes.
If you want to relax from a long hike, take a swim in the public pool in Muerren. Facilities include Sauna, Gym, Massage, Cosmetics and childrens creche.
